The first tested, effective vaccine against COVID19… Sounds like a dream, right? Well, it turns out that scientists are close.
According to the media, the pharmaceutical company Pfizer has developed a vaccine that works in over 90% of people who have not previously had the disease. The result was based on a series of studies and effectiveness analyzes by an external monitoring committee. What’s next? The market is going crazy, and the ubiquitous euphoria is everywhere, from the morning news on TV to stock indices.
What does this mean for us? Of course, a lot, and it is no secret that this information has shaken the laboratory and medical industry. A lot of challenges and a lot of work await us. Let’s take a closer look at where this prognosis comes from?
The devil is in the details? – Yes, it has always been there … First of all, the vaccine must be stored at a temperature below -80 degrees, which entails many logistical difficulties. I suspect the shipping industry is trying to modify and adjust the vaccine transport fleet. According to the information from the internet, more than 50 million doses are to be produced by the end of the year, and by the end of 2021 there are to be around 1.3 billion doses. Such numbers are impressive. Following this lead, it is easy to guess how much impact it will also have on the situation in hospitals and laboratories … The demand for devices capable of achieving such temperatures will increase dramatically, but are we ready for it?
